KEY REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSTRUCTING INDOOR PADEL COURTS
When constructing an indoor padel court, it's essential to adhere to the International Padel Federation (IPF) regulations. A standard indoor padel court measures:
- 20 meters (66 feet) in length;
- 10 meters (33 feet) in width;
covering a total playing area of 200 square meters (2,178 square feet). To ensure player safety, a perimeter of at least 0.5 meters (1 ft 8 in) should be maintained around the court, especially for professional installations. For recreational facilities, this is recommended but not always mandatory. The total space required for a court, including this safety perimeter, is approximately 231 square meters (2,486 square feet).
Additionally, the indoor ceiling height should be a minimum of 6 meters (20 feet) to allow for unimpeded gameplay. The back wall typically stands at 4 meters (13 feet), while sidewalls are often stepped, with a 4-meter (13-foot) panel connected to the back wall and a lower 3-meter (10-foot) panel further along the sides. Transparent glass walls, 3 meters high, run along the sides, enhancing visibility.
For proper gameplay, the net height is set at 88 centimeters (3 feet) in the center, extending across the entire 10-meter (33-foot) width of the court. The court lines, all 5 cm (2 in) wide, clearly mark service and boundary areas, ensuring compliance with international standards.
DISTANCE BETWEEN THE INDOOR PADEL COURTS
In multi-court indoor facilities, the space between courts can vary. While there is no strict need for space between courts due to the enclosed walls, some facilities prefer to allocate room for amenities such as bleachers, locker rooms, or water stations.
The ideal distance between padel courts depends on several factors:
- the orientation of the courts
- the level of play
- the surrounding environment
Generally, a minimum distance of 4 to 6 meters between courts is recommended to prevent interference between players on adjacent courts. However, this may not always be feasible, as reducing the space can allow for more courts in a given area, making the club more profitable. In such cases, the distance can be reduced to 1.5 to 2 meters.
Ultimately, the ideal distance will depend on the specific circumstances of the facility and the preferences of both players and organizers.
