How is a futsal field designed? Italgreen will tell you
Whether it is used by amateur or professional players, a soccer field must be designed in the proper way so that it possesses well-defined characteristics of playability, resistance to stress, usability and dimensions, which must conform to the measurements indicated by federal regulations.
The design of a soccer field involves several steps designed to verify the requirements of the terrain on which the field will be built, and then continue with a proper study of all the elements: from the laying of synthetic grass to drainage systems to the lighting system. All these steps are fundamental and must be taken care of with the utmost attention in order to contribute to the construction of state-of-the-art soccer fields.
The steps in the design of a soccer field
The first step in designing a soccer field is an inspection to verify that the ground has the appropriate characteristics to accommodate the future playing field. These include the dimensions:
- the field can range from 32x18m to 42x25m
- the goals must be 3x2m
- the penalty spot is 6m from the goal line
At this stage, the topographical survey is crucial and helps to determine the slope of the field, if any. In fact, the surface of the field should be smooth and flat so as to promote spectacular play and ball rolling.

After the inspection
At this point, the actual planning begins, which includes:
- the technical feasibility study
- the economic feasibility study with the various cost items
- the elaboration of the design of the soccer field
- the construction of the field
- the laying of the synthetic turf, which in turn includes three phases (soil stabilization, turf laying, infilling and brushing)
- the laying of complementary works, such as fencing, lighting system, equipment, and irrigation system
The most suitable synthetic grass to design of a soccer field
In the budget of a soccer field project, there is no lack of synthetic grass entry, because:
- it allows great fluidity of play
- it allows ideal bounce and ball flow
- it allows optimal grip and foot twisting during the game and training sessions
It also possesses economic advantages:
- requires little maintenance, resulting in savings in irrigation costs
- makes it possible for the field to be used year-round, even following bad weather, because the drainage system under the turf prevents the accumulation of water on the surface
- is extremely resistant to continuous trampling, weathering and UV rays
What types of artificial turf do we recommend
Green HD is the turf we most recommend when we lay a project for a soccer field. It is a type of synthetic grass certified by many national and international sports federations, characterized by:
- very durable smooth fibrillate with a high elastic memory
Alternatively, there are two other types of synthetic grass suitable for soccer fields: DMX and Zerofill.
DMX is a two-tone accentuated turf composed of special monofilament fibers that are resistant to weakening by UV rays and frost. It is characterized by:
- the elongated diamond shape of the fibers that ensures their immediate return to the upright position after trampling
- softness that preserves against abrasion in the event of athletes falling or slipping

Zerofill is a type of synthetic grass that does not require stabilization and performance infill due to the combination of two types of monofilament polyethylene fibers with high wear resistance. In addition:
- has a coloration in three shades of green, which recreates the effect of a natural lawn
- is characterized by extreme softness that greatly reduces abrasion coefficients
