Padel court installation steps
Padel is gaining popularity in Italy both competitively and as a social time. For this reason, more and more accommodation facilities are considering the possibility of hosting indoor courts to practice this sport. But how does one go about building padel courts?
Padel, or paddle, is a sport similar to tennis, whose rules and point-counting methods it retains, but which is played on smaller courts, with stiffer rackets and a softer ball than tennis. Because the court is smaller, many accommodations such as resorts and sports centers optimize unused space by installing padel courts in order to attract fans.
Put this way, it sounds very simple. In reality, the installation of padel courts must go through the expertise of a specialized company that knows how to properly evaluate the different factors and elements that create a court suitable for the practice of this sport.
Installing a padel court: how is it done?
First of all, it is necessary to start with a basic consideration: when building a padel court, it is not enough to create a playing area smaller than that of tennis because one must in every way ensure the speed of play that this sport requires. And, to do this, the court must be designed and installed correctly.
So there are some essential steps to install a durable and easy-to-maintain padel court.
Here are the stages of the work we do at Italgreen when called upon to build a padel court:
- inspection with topographical survey
- installation of a perimeter slab or curb
- choice of the type of synthetic grass
- installation of the lighting system, fencing, possible roofing
- turnkey delivery
- possible maintenance of the field

The preparation of the background in the installation of a padel court
The first step is an inspection with topographical survey, following which our engineers proceed to a technical and economic feasibility study and draw up a plan.
Second step, after making sure that there are no imperfections or depressions in the ground, is the installation of a perimeter slab or curb that conforms to the characteristics of the project.
Construction of the field, in particular, involves laying the turf with:
- subgrades
- infills
- draining and antishock underlayments
- the installation of complementary works such as lighting, equipment and irrigation system
The choice of turf
The choice of turf must be thoughtful because it affects thestiffness, softness, and speed you want to achieve from the field.
The best option is a synthetic turf lawn, which is ideal for optimizing every playing dynamic as well as the maintenance and durability of the field itself. Among the various types of synthetic turf we produce at Italgreen, we recommend:
- 12 Padel Pro
- 14 Padel
12 PadelPro and 14 Padel are two turfgrasses specially created for padel, 10 mm and 12 mm high respectively and composed offibers resistant to ice and ultraviolet rays. In addition, they possess a highelastic memory that causes the fibers to immediately return to an upright position after being walked on. They are available in three colors: red, green and blue.

The choice of synthetic grass in the installation of padel courts has significant advantages because:
- it requires little maintenance and , therefore, also saves costs
- it is perfect all year round
- it promotes optimal ball bounce and trajectories
- it allows grip and foot glide
- it gives considerable playing comfort
Complementary works
Simultaneously with the construction and laying of the grass, we proceed with the installation of all complementary works, such as:
- lighting, designed to ensure coverage of the entire field without dazzling the players-it is for this reason necessary to evaluate its materials and layout
- fencing, resistant to the weather and the stresses of the game
- possible roofing , which depends on the type of field:fixed and equipped with permanent structures oroutdoor or indoor
Fiberglass structures
For Padel courts, we have patented, first in the world, special fiberglass structures that , unlike iron ones:
- do not rust
- are resistant to salt corrosion, UV rays and fire
- do not incur structural failure
- are lightweight
Turnkey delivery of the paddle court
Finally, once the construction of the paddle court is finished, we deliver it to you turnkey, ready to use and in working order.

And after installation, how do you maintain a paddle court?
It is actually not difficult to maintain a paddle field made of synthetic grass because the latter is specially designed to withstand heavy use, impervious weather conditions and UV rays. In addition, it does not require irrigation, which greatly reduces maintenance costs.
However, in order for, the field to be always in excellent condition and as good as new, it may be necessary to carry out some maintenance work or periodic checks.
In our after-sales service, we have therefore included the possibility of requesting the check:
- of the flatness
- of any sheet cleavages and signage and their measurements
- Of the thickness of the infill
- Of the thickness of the yarn
- of the obstacles
and other types of interventions such as:
- cleaning the surface of contaminants by blowing
- brushing/harrowing with appropriate machinery to make the distribution of the present clog homogeneous
- clearing of the existing clog in the mat by deep harrowing
- repeated brushing to equalize the previously inserted performance infill
- inspection and cleaning of the drainage system
