Sofisport and Italgreen, synthetic turf lands in Coverciano

From the synergy between two great entrepreneurs in the industry comes a product destined to change the world of synthetic turf sports mats. The vocation for technological research and experimentation of Roberto Nusca, patron of Sofisport, and the know-how of Maurizio Gilardi, head of Italgreen, a leading manufacturer of artificial turf, led to the "birth" of Bio-Surface.

It is one of the most innovative solutions in the field of synthetic turf, used in the recent restyling project of the new 11-a-side artificial turf field at the Coverciano Sports Center, wanted by the Italian Football Federation. The new Bio-Surface mat was therefore woven by Italgreen for the Pisa-based company Sofisport, the company that studied the technology and carried out the project.

In fact, it is at Italgreen's headquarter in Villa d'Adda that the yarn, masterfully processed with the best technologies available on the market, is transformed to become a turf capable of guaranteeing the best results for players at any time and in any weather condition. The high technological value of the solutions proposed by Italgreen can be found in a series of accredited projects carried out in recent years: top-level national clubs such as FC Juventus, AC Chievo Verona and US Avellino as well as authoritative stadiums of an international nature such as the newly modernized "Arena da Baixada" in Coritiba, Brazil -considered one of the most futuristic facilities in the world- have availed themselves of the professionalism of the Bergamo-based company, which reconfirms itself as a market leader for professional soccer clubs.

In particular, Bio-Surface, the system installed at Coverciano and awarded the highest national homologation-LND professional-is made of special monofilament fibers of ultra-high thickness, a factor that guarantees extreme resistance to weakening by UV rays and frost and, consequently, prolonged durability. The special helix shape ensures an immediate return of the fibers to an upright position after treading, ensuring perfect ball bounce and glide and a natural twist and grip of the foot. The excellent density of the filaments gives remarkable softness by limiting fall abrasion, which combined with the two-tone green gives an extraordinary resemblance to natural grass. These technical peculiarities of the synthetic turf make it well understood how Bio-Surface, with natural Bio-Ground infill, is a system that can guarantee excellent performance in any playing condition.

The new field at Coverciano was inaugurated last Nov. 7 with a friendly match between a team composed of Federation employees and a representative group of journalists sent with the Italian national team. CT Gian Piero Ventura also attended the event to see the efficiency of the new synthetic turf soccer field.
