One can now count on one's fingers the days that separate us from the start of the Internazionali d'Italia BNL to be held May 10-21 in Rome's Foro Italico. To date there are almost 16,000 registered players: a resounding success when you consider that the figure exceeds the US Open Play-Off (the event that the USTA organizes each year in the run-up to the New York Slam) and that in 2011, when the project was launched, just 884 players answered the roll call.
Not just tennis at the Internazionali d'Italia BNL at the Foro Italico.
Framing one of the most impressive ATP World Tour Masters 1000 will be another sport, Padel, which kicked off just today the men's and women's Open valid for national ranking. Italgreen will be present at the important sporting event as main sponsor together with Stadium Pro with which it will participate by installing, outside the Foro Italico, two red synthetic grass Padel courts. This is a major participation, to which the Bergamo-based company has reserved an eye not only for the prestige of the event, which is confirmed to be one of the tennis tournaments with the largest number of participants in the world, but also for having joined a new sport with great potential.
Padel in fact is said to be a sport "born by mistake," when in the 1970s a Mexican citizen built a tennis court by mistaking the dimensions within a space surrounded by walls. So much has changed since then that today Padel is a signature sport for millions of people around the world.
Neither a miniature tennis nor a variant of squash, but a sport discipline with its own identity that in Italy has had its own Federation since 1991 and since 2008 has been recognized by the C.O.N.I., which has included it within the Italian Tennis Federation.
The growth of Padel
Padel is experiencing exponential growth in our country in the wake of Argentine and Spanish enthusiasm for the sport. Italgreen in this regard is making a huge effort to support it and give it the right professional boost by committing itself as the ideal partner to give life to ideal spaces in which to play every match thanks to the 'synthetic grass available in any color variant, from the most authoritative to amateur.
